Sun ‘n Lake Golf League on Tap

SEBRING – The arrival of spring and the warm weather it brings signals the start of many of the weekly golf leagues in Highlands County.

The golf league at Sun ‘N Lake Country Club is one of the oldest in the area and it begins play on Tuesday, May 4.

The league, which will run for 16 consecutive weeks, is a two-person format and play will begin at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

There is a registration fee of $25 per person due the first week of play, while the weekly cost is $12, which includes green fee, a cart for nine holes and prize money.

The league, which requires check-in by 5:15 p.m., will rotate over the Deer Run and Turtle Run courses during the four months of play.

“We’re looking forward to a great summer of golf,” said Sun ‘N Lake assistant professional Andy Kesling. “We make it very fair for all the people by having two separate leagues, depending on their ability.

“We will also utilize the Deer Run and Turtle Run courses because this offers the golfers a variety of holes and a different type of challenge every week of the league.”

The leagues are points-based, with weekly adjustments, and there are closest-to-the-pin contests each week as well as skins games for the avid players.

“We try and have people play against players of the same caliber and it’s very fair because we use a points scoring system,” Kesling said. “It’s a lot of fun for everyone and we encourage the golfers in the area to come out and see how much fun they can have playing in our league.”

At the end of the season, the prize money is distributed with many of the teams enjoying a return on their golfing ability.

A highlight of playing in the league is that golfers will be able to play the new par 3 18th hole on the Deer Run course as well as enjoy the brand new clubhouse that recently opened.

“We’re very proud of our new clubhouse and the new 18th hole,” said Kesling. “I’ve been here for three years and we’ve made a lot of changes in that time and we’re always looking to make sure that golfers have a great experience at Sun ‘N Lake Country Club.

“The courses are in great shape and we’re excited and looking forward to a great summer of golf.”
