Sun ‘n Lake Golf League on Tap

SEBRING – The arrival of spring and the warm weather it brings signals the start of many of the weekly golf leagues in Highlands County.

The golf league at Sun ‘N Lake Country Club is one of the oldest in the area and it begins play on Tuesday, May 4.

The league, which will run for 16 consecutive weeks, is a two-person format and play will begin at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

There is a registration fee of $25 per person due the first week of play, while the weekly cost is $12, which includes green fee, a cart for nine holes and prize money.

The league, which requires check-in by 5:15 p.m., will rotate over the Deer Run and Turtle Run courses during the four months of play.

“We’re looking forward to a great summer of golf,” said Sun ‘N Lake assistant professional Andy Kesling. “We make it very fair for all the people by having two separate leagues, depending on their ability. (more…)

Wine Tasting Event Raises Funds for Alvarez Foundation

SEBRING – More than 100 people gathered at the Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club Restaurant for a Wine Tasting fundraiser for the Bo Alvarez Children’s Foundation on Sunday, March 7.

Basil Makris, the owner of Zeno’s, and Michelle Alvarez, founder of the Bo Alvarez Children’s Foundation, organized the event hosted at Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club Restaurant which recently opened in December. Guests enjoyed food created and donated by Cang Tong, Nelli’s Cuban Cafe, Wild Turkey, Yanni’s and Zeno’s. There was an abundant supply of wines to sample as well.

Live entertainment was provided by Marni Frantz.

Approximately $3,500 was raised to go toward the SKY (Specialized Kare for Youngsters) Program offered at Ridge Area Arc in Avon Park. The Bo Alvarez Children’s Foundation funds the SKY Program. SKY is a respite program for parents and caregivers who have children, ages 5-15, who have disabilities.

“There is a lack of support services to help families with special needs children cope,” Alvarez said. “The SKY respite program not only helps the kids, but their families as well.” (more…)

Sun ‘n Lake Breaks Ground on New Recreation Complex

SEBRING, Fla. – On Friday, Sun ‘n Lake representatives, while surrounded by residents, business leaders and friends, broke ground on the new $1.7 million community recreation complex. The new complex, designed by The Evans Group, will feature a 2,485 sq/ft zero-entry pool and 1,689 sq/ft bathhouse, picnic pavilion and children’s play area.

“I am excited that construction has begun on the new recreation complex,” said Sun ‘n Lake General Manager Al Grieshaber Jr. “Once it is completed it will increase community interaction and be a great place for our residents to enjoy the many activities offered by Sun ‘n Lake.”

The pool construction will be spearheaded by Weller Pools LLC and the entire project will be managed by Lodge Construction, the company who recently completed the golf clubhouse on schedule and under budget. The expected completion date for the new recreation complex is July 31, 2010.

Community Invited to Commemorate Kickoff

SEBRING, FL – Sun ‘n Lake representatives, residents, business leaders and friends will gather together to commemorate the kickoff of construction for the new $1.7 million community recreation complex. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Friday, February 26 at 8:45 a.m. and will be held just behind the current community center located at 3500 Edgewater Drive.

“The new recreation complex is going to be a great place for our community to come together,” said Sun ‘n Lake General Manager Al Grieshaber Jr. “From water aerobics to arts and crafts there is certainly something for everyone here at Sun ‘n Lake and this complex will add to the amenities and lifestyle of our residents. With all the activities that occur in this community on a weekly basis, I’m sure it’s going to be put to good use.”

Weller Pools LLC, well known in the pool and water feature industry, will spearhead the pool construction. Lodge Construction, the company who recently completed the golf clubhouse on schedule and under budget, will manage the project. Expected completion date is July 31, 2010.

Live Sun ‘n Lake Launches

Community Newsletter and New Website Address Roll Out

SEBRING, Fla. – Representatives from Sun ‘n Lake today announced the completion of the first edition of their community newsletter, Live Sun ‘n Lake along with the new community website address, www.LiveSunnLake.com. These two elements are the next steps in the marketing initiative launched in December of 2009 which included the new brand, website and a national marketing campaign. The new brand is showing up throughout the community and has the slogan, “Come for the Sun. Stay for the Play.”

“We are putting cost-effective platforms in place to promote this community,” said Sun ‘n Lake General Manager Al Grieshaber Jr. “One of the key elements includes not only communicating with prospective residents and guests, but also current residents. I’m excited about the new newsletter and believe it complements our re-branding and will serve as an excellent tool for the marketing efforts.”

It’s not so bad here

SEBRING – In Washington, a Smithsonian storage building collapsed under 10 inches of snow. In New York City, school was canceled for 1.1 million students.

Snowplows have been rolling around the clock for days in New England and the Midwest. Philadelphia and Baltimore are buried under 3 feet of snow.

And in Sebring, Florida?

It was 50 degrees and sunny just before lunch in the new golf clubhouse restaurant at Sun ‘n Lake, where Diane Reidy canceled her golf date.

“It was too windy,” she explained. That explanation fell a little flat, so she just fessed up.

“I’m a wimp,” said Reidy, who’s here from Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Sun ‘n Lake Swings into New Year

New Golf Clubhouse, Brand and Website – Great way to Kickoff 2010!

SEBRING, Fla. – The Sun ‘n Lake Community had a whirlwind month in December.  Starting with the launch of their new brand and website the first week of the month and swinging open the doors to their state-of-the-art golf clubhouse mid-month, they closed out their 35th year with their eyes fixed on the future of the community.  According to the new brand, it will be a future where people will, “Come for the fun. Stay for the play.”

Sun ‘n Lake to open Golf Clubhouse

SEBRING – Work continued Tuesday putting the finishing touches to the new Sun ‘n Lake of Sebring Improvement District Golf Clubhouse, in preparation for Saturday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for golf members and Sunday’s grand opening celebration to the general public.

About 500 guests are expected for the ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday, said Shannon Sayre, event planner with Adeo Media. Saturday’s event is by invitation only, she said.

PGA champion Brad Bryant will be there Saturday to cut the ribbon. Bryant is a 20-year veteran of the PGA Tour and 2007 winner of the U.S. Senior Open. (more…)

Sun ‘n Lake has new brand, Web site

SEBRING - Officials at Sun ‘n Lake of Sebring have decided to establish an official brand and Web site tailored solely to the community.

“Our new look will better differentiate the community as a whole,” said Sun ‘n Lake General Manager Al Grieshaber Jr. in a press release. “Sun ‘n Lake is enjoyable, affordable and distinctive from its competitors. We hope our 7,500 residents will identify with our new logo and look forward to sharing our camaraderie with others using these new communication tools.”

To help articulate its character, Sun ‘n Lake hired Kidd Group, a marketing firm headquartered in Tallahassee, to develop a new brand and Web site. (more…)
